Newbury Pickleball Club
Newbury Pickleball Club was founded after club organiser Keith played at a festival with a friend and his teenage daughters, who loved the sport, and saw a great opportunity to bring pickleball to Newbury Tennis Club and give people of all ages and abilities an easy way into racket sports. What began with a handful of curious tennis players and a couple of borrowed nets has grown rapidly in its first season, welcoming over 100 players, running more than 40 sessions, taking over 300 bookings and building a waiting list, a festival and a winter programme within a single summer.
The club follows the weather across two venues: outdoor sessions at Newbury Tennis Club through the summer and indoor sessions at Trinity School for the winter season. Sessions run on Sundays with 16 places available each week, and the club is actively looking to add a second session day based on member demand. The atmosphere is as much about the community as the sport, with chat between rallies, familiar faces and, by all accounts, a very good slice of cake.
All standards are welcome, paddles and balls are provided, and there is no membership fee or kit required. New players can attend their first session free of charge. Pay-and-play is available at £6 per session, with an option to book 11 weeks upfront at a reduced rate.
